About the String action gauge

'Action' is the height of the strings above the frets. Too high is hard to play; too low buzzes. A small step gauge like this is the standard way to measure it at the 12th fret during a setup. This one reads in both millimetres and fractions of an inch.

For crisp markings, print it in two colours with a single filament change: change colour on the first layer above 1.4 mm (at 0.2 mm layers, that's the layer starting at 1.6 mm). It doesn't need a multi-colour printer. Or print in one colour and fill the engraving with a marker. A handy tool alongside any printed guitar or ukulele build.
