About the reed thread spool

Tying oboe reeds puts a lot of tension on the thread. These spools are double-ended to stop tangles and strong enough to take the pull of reed tying. If you make a lot of reeds, the designer says they'll make life easier.

A winder adapter lets you fill a spool quickly with a cordless drill. Regular PLA with 3 walls and 25% infill has been plenty strong for the designer, though you can raise the infill. Print the winder lying down, not standing up.
