About the small-hand bassoon crutch

A bassoon crutch holds the right hand in position, but its size depends on the player's hand. Players with small hands, often younger students, may not be able to use a standard crutch at all and can pick up poor hand posture as a result. A bought crutch costs around US$20–30, and a custom one more.

This design shortens everything: the stem is 19 mm instead of the usual 24 mm, and the palm sits 13 mm from the holder instead of about 20 mm. The designer's aim was a custom-fit crutch for less than 50 cents of filament.
