About the baroque oboe

This is a baroque oboe redrawn to play at modern pitch. Its look is based on a baroque oboe in the collection of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Like the original it has three sections: an upper joint, a lower joint and a bell.

To fit the designer's RepRap, the upper and lower joints are each split into two parts. Every joining face has a 1 mm raised lip and two alignment holes; you shave the lip flat before gluing the halves together. A later update added the two keys, which you make yourself from 1.5 mm brass sheet using the included drawing (keys_rev2.pdf). The designer notes you may need to adjust them for your own instrument.

It's a project for someone comfortable with a little metalwork, and you'll need baroque oboe reeds to play it.
