About Instrument Library

A free, open, community-minded library of DIY musical instruments and accessories, from 3D-printed designs to woodworking and electronics builds.

We link, we don't host. We don't copy, rehost or redistribute any design files. The small preview picture on each card is the creator's own image, shown with credit under the design's Creative Commons licence; designs under other licences get a plain placeholder instead. Every "View / download" or "View the plans" button goes to the design's original page. Each design belongs to its creator and is offered under the licence shown on its card. The creator's own page is always the final word.

Attribution

Every entry names its creator and the site where it's published. If you make, remix or share a design, credit the creator as their licence requires, and link back to their original page where you can.

What the licence labels mean

  • CC0: public domain. Use it for anything.
  • CC BY: use it for anything, including selling what you make, as long as you credit the creator.
  • CC BY-SA: as CC BY, but remixes must be shared under the same licence.
  • CC BY-ND: share it as-is, with credit. No modified versions.
  • Anything with NC (CC BY-NC, BY-NC-SA, BY-NC-ND): non-commercial use only. Don't sell what you make or the files.
  • MakerWorld Standard Digital File License and Cults Private Use: personal use only.

"Commercial use OK" means the licence allows selling what you make or the files: Yes for CC0, CC BY, CC BY-SA and CC BY-ND (unmodified), and No for any NC licence and the personal-use licences. This is a plain-language summary, not legal advice. See creativecommons.org/licenses for the full texts.

How licences were checked

On 20 October 2026, Printables entries were checked against the Printables API, MakerWorld entries against the MakerWorld design API, and Thingiverse entries against the licence data embedded in each design's page. Cults3D licences were read from the model page, Instructables licences from the Instructables API, and for other sites, from the creator's own page. Where no licence is stated, we say so. Licences can change, so check the creator's page again before you republish files or sell what you make.

Who's behind it

Instrument Library is a small volunteer project started by a family of musicians and makers, for players of every instrument.
