Make your own instrument, reed tool or music stand.
Instrument Library is a free, open library of DIY musical instruments and accessories, from 3D-printed designs to woodworking, PVC and electronics builds. Each one is checked for its licence and linked straight to its creator's page. Get the files or plans there, make it, play it.
Instruments
Playable designs: Hovalin violin, O'Cello cello, PrintBone trombone, hurdy-gurdies, a cigar box guitar, a cajón, a theremin and more.
Accessories
Reed tools, stands, mutes, capos, pencil holders, music clips and other practical bits.
Borrow instruments
Many public libraries lend musical instruments. Find one near you on a map.
Candidates
Promising finds we're still researching before they join the main library.
Incomplete
Unfinished or unproven projects that can still be a starting point for your build.
Maker's Kit
Printers, filament and the parts you can't print, like strings, tuners, cork and glue, matched to what our designs call for.
How it works
- Find a design. Search or filter by category, licence and whether commercial use is allowed.
- Go to the source. Each card's button takes you to the creator's own page, on Printables, Thingiverse, Instructables, a blog or wherever they published it.
- Respect the licence. Credit the creator. Check the licence on their page before you sell what you make or share remixes.
